Practice identifying, addressing, responding to, and apologizing for various forms of workplace microaggressions and implicit bias.
Microaggressions are defined as everyday verbal and nonverbal slights, snubs, or insults — whether intentional or unintentional — that signal implicit bias against members of a marginalized group.
Addressing Workplace Microaggressions is a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) VR training experience designed to empower employees with the awareness, confidence, and competence needed to recognize, mitigate, and respond to various forms of microaggressions in the workplace.
By completing this module, learners will understand the longstanding adverse effects of workplace microaggressions and the importance of proactively addressing them in order to facilitate an equitable, inclusive, and respectful workplace environment where everyone can thrive.
During a team meeting, you’ll be tasked with identifying various instances of microaggressions in the form of biased language and behaviors directed at two coworkers, Joann and Jasmine.
As the meeting unfolds, you’ll witness the harmful effects that microaggressions have on individual team members and team dynamics, underscoring the importance of taking a proactive approach to acknowledge and address them.
Set in a large conference room, this experience begins with a brief overview of DE&I best practices.
During a team meeting, you witness Joann committing microaggressions against another colleague, Andrew. You’ll be tasked with identifying the underlying bias behind each microaggression (i.e. racism, ageism, sexism, etc.) and observe Joann as she makes a heartfelt apology to Andrew, acknowledging her mistake and offering to make amends.
In this DE&I training experience, you’ll be tasked with recognizing and responding to microaggressions using the 5D approach: Direct, Distract, Delay, Delegate, and Document.
Answer multiple choice questions to select the appropriate response in each instance and receive immediate feedback on your choices.
A coworker, Zene, approaches you privately to discuss her concerns after an uncomfortable conversation with her manager. As you navigate this difficult conversation, you must provide Zene with emotional support through verbal responses as she asks for your advice and perspective.
Listen to your recorded conversation from Zene’s perspective and self-assess your performance.
